Seahawk Invitational - Meet Highlights

The Gator Swim Team finished 7th place overall with 230 points. Gator swimmers made the most out of the opportunity, putting the team at the top in number of points per athlete (19.17) and number of points per entry (2.21). New Ozark Records: Congratulations to Gabby Vieira for breaking two long-standing Ozark LSC records: the Girls 9-10 50 LC Meter Butterfly (from 1998) with a new time of 33.18, and the 200 LC Meter Freestyle (from 1992) with a new time of 2:26.07. Click here to see the Ozark Records page.

High Point:

  • Gabby Vieira got first place overall in the Girls 9-10 age group with 82 points.
  • Austin Hobbs got second place overall in the Boys 9-10 age group with 76 points.

  • Austin Hobbs lowered his own team records in the Boys 9-10 400 LC Meter Freestyle (5:12.97) and 200 LC Meter Individual Medley (2:54.07).
  • Kyleigh Troxel broke the Girls 11-12 400 LC Meter Individual Medley record (from 1997) with a new time of 5:35.78 and also lowered her own 200 LC Meter Butterfly record (2:44.61).
  • Gabby Vieira lowered 8 of her own records in the Girls 9-10 LC Meter category: 50 Free (31.53), 100 Free (1:07.56), 200 Free (2:26.07), 50 Back (36.13), 100 Back (1:17.91), 50 Fly (33.18), 100 Fly (1:16.13) and 200 IM (2:48.32). She also achieved 6 new Top-16 (NRT) times in one meet, a new all-time mark for a Gator swimmer.

New Ozark Record: Gabriela Vieira broke the Girls 10 & Under 400 Meter Freestyle Ozark record with a time of 5:08.87. Click here to see the Ozark Records page.

New Gator Records:

  • Austin Hobbs lowered his own Boys 9-10 record times in the 100 Free (1:11.31), 400 Free (5:17.20), 100 Breast (1:32.43), 200 IM (2:55.13) and also broke the 800 Free record with a new time of 11:05.51.
  • Hannah Kinder lowered her own Girls Open record times in the 100 Back (1:07.90) and 200 Back (2:28.18).
  • Kristian Troxel broke two old Boys 11-12 records, 50 Fly (33.29) and 100 Fly (1:14.56), and also lowered his own 100 Breast record time (1:24.78).
  • Kyleigh Troxel lowered two of her own Girls 11-12 records, 800 Free (10:11.46) and 100 Fly (1:18.94), and broke two old records as well: 200 Free (2:23.47) and 400 Free (4:56.72).

HEAT MEET HIGHLIGHTS - Gator Swim Team finished 2nd overall with 3,007 points.

    • In the 8 & Under Champs, Allison McDonald finished 8th in the Girls group with 78 points, while Ian Cameron finished 4th (112 points), John Kiefner finished 6th (101 points), and Tra Leimer finished 15th (44 points) in the Boys group.
    • In the HEAT Lightning, the following Gator swimmers placed top 10 in their groups: Gabby Vieira (1st) and Elizabeth Kiefner (4th) in the 9-10 Girls; Austin Hobbs (1st) and Kevin Douglas (2nd) in the 9-10 Boys; Morgan Maguire (1st), Natalie King (6th) and Madeline Siefert (7th) in the 11-12 Girls; Bridget Hale (1st), Allison Hobbs (2nd), Lizzie Schmidt (3rd), Molly Turner (4th) and Eryn Thomas (6th) in the 13-14 Girls; Scott Ramsey (2nd) in the 13-14 Boys; Anna Esswein (9th) and Anne Wolpers (10th) in the 15 & Over Girls; and Caleb Coots (2nd) in the 15 & Over Boys.
    • New Achievements: Anna Esswein got her first BB time in the 15-16 Girls category with a time of 30.07 in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
    • New Team Records: Kevin Douglas lowered his own record in the 200 Yard Backstroke by more than 5 seconds with a new time of 2:37.37. Austin Hobbs also lowered his own 200 Breastroke record by half second (3:00.46) and broke the 200 Fly record with a new time of 2:50.04. Gabby Vieira lowered 3 of her own records as well: 200 Back (2:31.16), 200 Breast (3:10.03) and 200 Fly (2:41.60). Another great showing, Gators!!!

GATORS GOING TO SECTIONALS - Good luck to our four Gator swimmers entered in the Sectionals meet at the Mizzou Aquatic Center Feb. 28-Mar. 2: Morgan Fraser, Allison Hobbs, Caleb Coots, Nick Welker.

TRISTATE MEET HIGHLIGHTS - Gabby Vieira set a new Girls 9-10 50 Yard Freestyle team record with a time of 28.48, and Natalie King achieved her first Girls 11-12 “A” time in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:15.12). The team finished second overall in the meet with 312 points, just behind the Salukis (408) and ahead of the Seals (251) and Barracudas (118). Nice job, Gator swimmers!

GREAT TIME RESULTS - Gator Results and Full Meet Results are now online, as is the Gator Lineup for the Tri-State Championship.

GREAT TIMES HIGHLIGHTS - Kyleigh Troxel got her first quad-A time in the Girls 11-12 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 18:51.49, also breaking her own Gator record. Kristian Troxel got his first triple-A times in the Boys 11-12 500 Freestyle (5:32.98) and 1650 Freestyle (19:17.32). Sean Doyle got his first A times in the Boys 15-16 50 Freestyle (25.07) and 100 Freestyle (55.16). And these swimmers got their first BB times: Jackie Bader in the Girls 15-16 200 Freestyle (2:19.41), Shelby Powers in the Girls 9-10 100 Backstroke, and Elizabeth Rorick in the Girls 11-12 200 Freestyle (2:31.70) and 500 Freestyle (6:36.57). New Gator Records: Besides Kyleigh Troxel’s 1650 Freestyle record, Austin Hobbs broke a long-standing Boys 9-10 record from 1988 in the 1000 Freestyle with a new time of 11:45.30. And Gabriela Vieira set 3 new Girls 9-10 records: 1000 Freestyle (11:46.92), 100 Back (1:10.85), and a 22-year-old record in the 50 Yard Backstroke with a new time of 32.31. Congratulations, Gators!

JANUARY MEET HIGHLIGHTS: New Records: Austin Hobbs broke his own 500 Yards Freestyle Gator record (Boys 9-10) with a time of 5:47.73. Gabby Vieira also lowered two of her own Gator records: the Girls 9-10 500 Yards Freestyle (5:47.72, also a new Ozark record) and 200 Yards IM (2:33.23). New Achievements: Austin’s 500 Freestyle finish also brought him his first quad-A time. And Morgan Maguire got her first double-A time in the Girls 11-12 1650 Freestyle with a time of 20:15.28. Congratulations, Gator swimmers!!!

MOVIE STARS - Ozark Short Course Championships: The Movie!

CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS - The Gator Swim Team finished in 6th place overall with 1,058 points. A massive 63% of all Gator entry times were improved upon, and 17 Gator swimmers finished top-16 in one or more events (out of 26 who qualified for the meet—click here for more meet statistics). On top of all that, Coach Steve lost his hair in a bet with the swimmers: he agreed to shave his head bald if 4 different swimmers would arrive first in their events on Saturday.     • Medalists: Five Gators won first place medals at the meet: Caleb Coots, Kevin Douglas, Austin Hobbs, Kyleigh Troxel and Gabriela Vieira. Other medalists (top-8) were Morgan Fraser, Allison Hobbs, Elizabeth Kiefner, Ramsey Scott, Kristian Troxel, Nick Welker and Annie Wolpers.
    • New Achievements: Annie Wolpers achieved her first 17-18 Girls double-A time in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.20.
    • New Records: Gabriela Vieira set these new 9-10 Girls team records: 50 Yard Freestyle (28.18); 100 Freestyle (1:00.42); 100 Backstroke (1:10.12); 100 Butterfly (1:08.40); 100 IM (1:12.18); and 200 IM (2:32.84). Two of these were long-standing Gator records set by Erin Vogt 17 years ago. And Austin Hobbs lowered his own 9-10 Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke record by almost 4 seconds, with a new time of 1:20.62.

CARBONDALE 500 HIGHLIGHTS - Achievements: Lizzie Schmidt got an A time in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:46.44. Caitlyn Palmer got her first BB times in the 200 Free, 100 Back and 50 Fly. New Gator Records: Austin Hobbs broke two long-standing 9-10 Boys records—the 500 Freestyle from 1988 with a new time of 5:56.57 and the 200 Breaststroke from 1996 with a new time of 3:00.96. Kevin Douglas set a new record for the 9-10 Boys 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:42.96. And Gabby Vieira set new records for the 9-10 Girls 200 Backstroke (2:35.82), 200 Breaststroke (3:15.20) and 200 Butterfly (2:48.68).

HALLOWEEN HOWL HIGHLIGHTS - Austin Hobbs broke his own Boys 9-10 100 Breaststroke SCY team record with a time of 1:24.09. - Lots of improved times and top finishes. Swimmers with top-8 times: Ava Andersson, Kevin Douglas, Audrey Glover, Bridget Hale, Allison Hobbs, Austin Hobbs, Elisabeth Kiefner, John-John Kiefner, Morgan Maguire, Madeline McDonald, Lizzie Schmidt, Madeline Siefert, Sophi Thurman, Kyleigh Troxel and Gabby Vieira. - swimmers who got their new Q1 times: Audrey Glover in the 500 free, Lizzie Schmidt 200 Breast , Bridget Hale 400 IM , Elizabeth Kiefner : 100 Free, back , Breast , IM , Fly; Morgan Maguire : 50 & 100 Breast , 100 fly , 100 IM Madeline McDonald : 200 Free , 100 Back; Sydney Stein : 200 Back. FALL FRENZY HIGHLIGHTS - High-point winners: Kevin Douglas (Boys 9-10), Gabriela Vieira (Girls 9-10) and Jessica Zander (Girls 13-14). New Achievements: Eryn Thomas got a BB time in the Girls 13-14 50 Freestyle with a time of 30.53; Sophi Thurman got a BB time in the Girls 8 & Under 50 Back with a time of 42.61; Molly Turner got BB times in the Girls 13-14 100 Freestyle (1:04.60), 200 Freestyle (2:25.12) and 50 Freestyle (30.20); and Gabriela Vieira got AAAA times in the Girls 9-10 500 Freestyle (5:52.73) and 100 Freestyle (1:01.16). Gabriela Vieira also broke two old Gator records (both by Erin Vogt in 1991) in the Girls 9-10 SCY category: the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:01.16 and the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:52.73. RECORD BREAKERS - The times database has been updated with the Central Zones times. Three new Gator LCM records have been set: Austin Hobbs broke the Boys 9-10 200 M Freestyle record with a time of 2:32.63, and Morgan Fraser broke the Girls 13-14 50 M Freestyle (29.37) and the 200 M IM (2:33.68) records. Congratulations!

NEW GATOR RECORDS SET AT SECTIONALS - David Welker broke his own record in the 200M LCM Backstroke with a time of 2:19.12. Morgan Fraser broke the Gator records in the Girls 13-14 50M Freestyle (29.58), 100M Freestyle (1:03.21), 200M Freestyle (2:19.40), and 200M IM (2:35.02). She also set new records in the Girls Open 100M Breaststroke (1:19.25) and 200M Breaststroke (2:57.19). Allison Hobbs broke her own team records in the Girls 13-14 800M Freestyle (9:48.70) and 1500M Freestyle (18:53.43). Last, but not least, Hannah Kinder broke her own Gator record in the Girls Open 100M Freestyle (57.67) and beat an old record set by Erin Vogt 10 years ago in the 200M Freestyle (2:04.39). Congratulations to these swimmers for their achievements, and to all Gators their exceptional performance.
