BREASTSTROKE
1. The body is streamlined and just under the surface with the eyes looking down the lane. The hip maintains the momentum of the previous kick.
2. The thighs move upwards to lift the legs. The hands skull to the side just wide of the shoulders. The hands and shoulders, in unison, lift gradually.
3. The body rises, and elbows bend sharply, while the hands move inwards on almost the same line as the outward skull. Leg recovery starts as the knees bend.
4. The bent arms are drawn vigorously inwards as the pull ends. The hands continue forward without hesitation. The face clears the water as the body is elevated. The hips press downward, causing the legs and feet to lift.
5. Shoulders and upper back are clear of the water and the swimmer breathes. A deep knee flexion brings the heels close to the buttocks with the feet just below the surface.
6. The arms extend forward with shoulders following to enable the swimmer to get a longer reach, the feet are flexed outward as the kick starts. The head lunges forward and submerges.
7. The hips extend, thighs and buttocks lift in reaction. Leg drive nears completion, feet accelerate through this powerful phase of the kick.
8. The swimmer is now streamlined during a short glide just below the water surface. We now go back to the beginning and start the process over again.
